Tutorial Levels


Well it would appear we have another update. It's been a while, a good month, or so, since the last. And it seems a lot has changed. 

Can we talk about the title of this devlog? Well, I'm gonna. There are now tutorial levels.

TUTORIAL LEVELS!

Okay, okay, so it's a lame addition. Far from anyone's favourite part of a game but it's been a massive learning experience. Designing the levels has helped me get more comfortable with Unreal. Plus it's allowed me to do more things that I'll be doing a lot of. Namely recording dialogue and creating levels. As well as practice all my other skills, like playtesting, fiddling with logic and breaking everything (all valid skills I'll have you know). 

There are five levels which (hopefully) teach the basic controls, They are set in a computer program that our main character is playing to learn his combat skill. The program has a retro-esque aesthetic which I had a lot of fun making. The player is guided through by Dr. Apparat's voice, which just so happens to be my voice. Fancy that. 
The final level is a test of sorts. Not only testing the player's ability but it also helps me test what works in the game and what doesn't

On that note quite a few things weren't working on the previous builds. Specifically the AI's logic; they were stupid. I was finding if you were slightly inclined or declined the enemy would not shoot you but simply stare at you waiting for something to happen. I fixed this. They are still pretty stupid but now they can at least shoot you when you're on a slope.

The other change worth mentioning is the sound. There are now two music tracks, one for the program and one for the sandbox. The weapon sounds are new too and there are also spoken voice lines.

All in all, it's coming together and starting to look like more of a game.
